Uniquely architected as a set of modular web services based on open industry standards, InnerGrid V (IG V) can seamlessly inter-operate with other crucial elements including systems management, application servers, data-caching, and distributed databases.

IG V's architecture delivers proven simplification of grid adoption across the spectrum of applications and environments. Designed as the engine of the new virtual data centre it is based on Web Service standards (SOAP, WSDL, WS-Security) that integrate seamlessly in service-orientated architecture environments.

The component-based plug-in allows grid services to be extended or replaced and new high-level services to be developed reusing existing lower components. In addition, redundancy and self-healing mechanisms permeate all layers of the platform.

These components are related to the optimal execution of applications and IG V agents are available in Linux, Windows, Solaris, AIX, HPUX, and Mac OSX.

Virtualisation
Permeates all component layers. The virtual file system provides fully WS-based access to data resources from any component in the Grid. And virtualisation of Grid-enabled applications abstracts them from the resource layers to provide additionally autonomic splitting and scheduling of tasks, and seamless legacy code integration. Finally, the resource layer is virtualised and treated as a pool in which groups are defined dynamically by their characteristics.

Management
IG V components support low-level services related to authentication, user policies, resource policies, temporary data storing and caching, and basic agent management (resource description, benchmarking, and provisioning). Other services provide auditing, messaging, backwards compatibility, server clustering, and the provisioning and caching of applications. As a result, higher level services provide real time and historical data on Grid usage - including user activity, application activity, and cost.
